Shaquille O'Neal's new video game will allow you to fight Kanye West as Barack Obama

Shaquille O’Neal is coming out with a new video game. Older gamers will remember the original Shaq Fu, a fighting game released on the Sega Genesis back in 1994. We’re getting a sequel to that called Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn.

The game allows you to fight as Shaq, of course. But he’s not the only big name you can play as.

Via Screenrant.com:

Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn releases next week on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, but more interesting than Shaquille O’Neal’s return to virtual martial arts might be the game’s first DLC pack. Called BarackFu, the additional story appears to star none other than former United States President Barack Obama. Well, for legal reasons it will officially involve “Dirty Barry,” but the references make it quite clear who it is based upon…

While the DLC has not been officially announced, the trophies for BarackFu give us some additional details about what to expect (via PSN Profiles). Players can become the “Commando-in-Chief” by defeating 300 enemies, and can use an attack called the “Barack n’ Rolla.” Dirty Barry’s fight will also lead to a confrontation with a Kanye West-inspired character called Con-Ye, and players will get a trophy called “The Death of Pablo”

Shaq is giving gamers have they’ve always wanted: A chance to pit a former president up against a famous rapper. 2018 is weird.

How Shaq became an early investor in Google

Shaq was offered the chance to get in early on Starbucks with an investment, but told Ellen DeGeneres this week that he passed in 1993 because he didn’t think that then-CEO Howard Schultz was reading the market correctly.

“He said ‘Shaq, I want to open up Starbucks in African American communities.’ Me, growing up, I’d never seen black people drink coffee. So I looked to the owner of Starbucks and said ‘it’s not going to work, black people don’t drink coffee.’ So now everytime I go to Starbucks and I see black people drinking coffee …” he said, burying his head in his hands.

(Of course, he skipped over in this interview that two black men were arrested at Starbucks for trespassing when they went to one of the shops to meet a friend last month, sparking nationwide outrage.)

He has gotten lucky with his investments though. He said he was in a Four Seasons hotel and entertaining a businessman’s kids in the early ’90s while their dad was in a meeting. When it was over, instead of buying him a drink or something, the businessman offered a better thank you.

“He said you know what you’re good with kids, I like you. I’m going to bring you in on this investment.”

That investment? A company called Google.

Of course, Shaq confirmed, he got a very big return.

Shaq's advice for NBA draft prospects buying a suit: 'Try the stuff you think is for the little guys'

I’ve always wondered how difficult clothes shopping is for basketball players, as most clothing isn’t cut for people who stand 7-foot-1, like Shaquille O’Neal. As part of his NBA Draft event with JCPenney, O’Neal answered questions on his suits, LeBron’s legacy and how he’s spending his summer vacation.

When you were a kid, you passed six-foot pretty early on. Was buying clothes difficult?

It was a struggle. When we found something that fit, we’d buy a bunch of them. Jeans fit? We’d buy four pairs. We always went to JC Penney. That’s why I have a partnership with them. I always shopped there, my mom shops there.

When you finished up at LSU in 1992, you knew all eyes were going to be on you on draft night, so getting a good suit was important. What was the draft day suit experience?

I was in Los Angeles at the time, and I heard from a tailor who wanted to make me a custom suit while I was filming Blue Chips.

Do you have advice for the young guys going through the draft now? What should they be thinking about when they pick their suits?

Fashion is about showing who you are. For me, I like the straight leg suits with nice shoes, loud ties. And I want to look good. I want the checked jackets and all that.

Now you can afford custom suits, but what advice do you have for the big guys who can’t?

Try the stuff you think is for the little guys. I always saw the little guys who walked around in their little Italian suits. Now we can have those. The little guys? Their time is over. It’s time for the big guys.

What advice would you give to LeBron James at this point in his career?

The thing with LeBron is that at this point, his legacy is set. I get why he wants to set his legacy, but it’s set with three rings. He doesn’t need to run around chasing rings.

It’s all about getting my son ready for college. He’s starting at UCLA in the fall so it’s about him.

Shaquille O'Neal made a Cowboys offensive lineman look tiny

Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing over 300 pounds, Cowboys LT Tyron Smith is a very large man. There are very few humans on earth who are capable of making him look small by comparison.

Shaquille O’Neal is one of those humans. He took a photo with Smith, and made the NFL All Pro look like your average fan.

Shaq hilariously reacts to being sneakily dunked on

Shaq once again found himself being dunked on as he had his back turned — everyone wants to dunk on the Hall of Famer.

One of the best high school players in the nation, Cole Anthony, who’s currently No. 3 on the 2019 ESPN 100, posterized Shaq on a short hoop. Anthony shared the video on Wednesday.

The most hilarious part is how Shaq reacted. He playfully grabbed Anthony, dragged the basket down and nearly put the kid’s head through the hoop.

Instagram Photo

Shaq was also dunked on by Nate Robinson while shooting the Uncle Drew movie. He had his back turned that time too.

“Nate Robinson has dunked on me twice, but they were not real dunks,” O’Neal said in a Twitter Q&A with fans. “Real dunks are made in competition. He’s coming, I’m coming, he dunks on me. When my back is turned, little sneaky little punk Nate jumps up, grabs the rim and dunks on my head.”

Shaq breaks down the bizarre Kawhi Leonard situation in San Antonio

2014 NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard wants out of San Antonio, and his relationship with the Spurs has deteriorated to the point that Leonard’s management reportedly hid him from Spurs staffers when they attempted to visit him during his rehab process.

Leonard only played in nine games last season, and though it had been reported for weeks that he strongly desired a trade to the Los Angeles Lakers, Leonard now reportedly prefers a move to the Clippers to avoid sharing the spotlight with LeBron James, according to ESPN.

Leonard was once beloved in San Antonio has a hard-working, team-first, no-nonsense superstar – but his popularity across the league is eroding seemingly by the day. ESPN’s Michelle Beadle argued Friday that Leonard has become one of the “most unlikable characters” in the NBA. Shaquille O’Neal sat down with Sports Illustrated and gave his take on the situation.

“I like Kawhi. I haven’t heard him speak yet, so I don’t like to speculate about what people say, what they do. Seems to me that him and his staff is probably upset. They probably went in early to talk about [an] extension. Pop’s an old-school guy. Hurt? You’re not going to get the max. Probably had that type of conversation with him.

They got a little upset, said ‘oh well you’re not going to pay us? We’re not going to [play].’ That’s what is seems to me is going on. I think it’s a communication thing. But we, as players, when we give our all and management doesn’t give their all in return, sometimes that kind of touches us the wrong way.

And I don’t know who his management, I don’t know who his agent is… He was on his way, he was touted as the second-best player in the league, and I think this hurts him a little bit. When he comes back, he’s going to have a lot of work to do to get that status back.”

Shaq led 'Barkley sucks' and 'Barkley has no rings' chants during his DJ set

Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley are colleagues with TNT’s NBA coverage. They also have a tendency to mock each other on air.

Even though both Shaq and Barkley insist their back-and-forth insults are all in good fun, Shaq turned his recent DJ Diesel performance into a roasting of Barkley.

Shaq led a “Barkley sucks” chant, and the crowd did indeed join along.

This all transitioned into a “Barkley has no rings” graphic displaying on the videoboard as Shaq clapped along to the chant.

The only downside to that performance was that it didn’t take place during the NBA season. By the time Barkley gets an opportunity to respond on TNT, the moment would have long passed.

New Lakers mural in LA shows LeBron looking up to Shaq and Kobe

Will this be the mural involving LeBron James that makes Lakers fans happy?

Attempts to declare James the “King of LA” in another mural in Los Angeles ended with vandalism and, eventually, the art being scrubbed completely.

Now? Look what’s popped up somewhere on Melrose Ave:

That’s James looking up at Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and what appears to be Wilt Chamberlain. Maybe that’s the sentiment that Lakers fans will give a thumbs up to — that James is a Laker but he’s not part of the pantheon of LA legends … yet.

Q&A: Shaq on his new Facebook reality show ‘Big Chicken Shaq’

Hall of Famer, four-time champion and successful businessman, Shaq has his own chef, but in an interview with For The Win, he made it clear that he knows how to cook, while hilariously revealing what he’d do if there was any instance in which he wasn’t able to cook something.

“Yes, I can cook,” Shaq said to FTW. “There’s a difference between can’t cook and don’t cook. I’m blessed enough to have a chef, but growing up I had to cook for my brothers and sisters. I can cook any dish. And if I can’t cook, then I go to the store and buy it, pop it in the microwave and bring it out like I cooked it.”

The phone interview was on behalf of a new eight-episode Facebook Watch series called Big Chicken Shaq that the big man is producing with Asylum Entertainment. Filming has already started and will go on through the summer with the show releasing in the fall. It follows Shaq as he works on opening his own restaurant, Big Chicken, in Las Vegas. He also plans to open locations in Los Angeles and Atlanta.

Fans will have multiple opportunities to interact with Shaq and share their opinions with him during the Facebook series, and Shaq even said that he’ll be picking up fans from the airport to bring them to his restaurant to have them try some wings.

Here’s more of what Shaq told FTW in a phone call on Wednesday, including him sharing what his chef nickname is and confirming that Charles Oakley is indeed a fantastic chef:

This interview has been lightly edited and condensed for clarity.

When and how did this idea of opening a restaurant in Vegas come up?

It came up probably a year ago. I decided to do it on Facebook because I’ve built a great community of fans on Facebook to share this journey with them. I always wanted to share my lifelong dream of opening my own restaurant. This is the perfect place for me because it enables me to engage directly with the fans while still building the restaurant if I need help or their feedback. I’m just trying to do what people want.

What inspired you to open a restaurant now?

I’m pretty much retired now, still doing a lot, but this was something I could really, really keep an eye on. Love chicken, grew up on chicken, raised on chicken, everybody loves chicken, so I just wanted to try my hand in this. It’ll start in Vegas, I’ll build one in LA, build one in Atlanta, just see where it goes from there.

How involved were you in terms of coming up with the name and the food?

I was very involved, but as a leader, especially learning how to win championships, you always have to rely on your teammates. My leadership style has always been to have people smarter than me and to never micromanage. If I could do this by myself, I wouldn’t need anybody, but no one wins championship by themselves. I got the top restaurant guy. I got the top chef guy. I got the top real estate guy. I got the top everybody working for me. We always have meetings and contests … We always come up with the popular vote.

Do you have a goal with this restaurant, like do you want to have the best chicken in America?

That’s always the goal, but we just want to put out good quality food that people can bring their family or children. I decided to put it off the strip because I want it to be like a destination. Of course anybody can put something on the strip and the feasibility is still insured because of the traffic flow, you get a lot of eyes, but we’re gonna promote this in a certain way and we’re gonna do a lot of marketing, so hopefully when people get to Vegas, they’ll go off the strip and say, “You know what, I want to try Shaq’s place.” That’s what we want. That’s a true study. Anybody can put chicken right next to Caesar’s Palace and get a lot of eyes, but we want to get ours the hard way — the real way. We want people to go off the strip to get something to eat.

Welcome to Las Vegas sign

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

What’s your favorite way to cook or eat chicken, since you’re opening a chicken restaurant?

I like a lot of fried chicken and I like a lot of baked chicken. I like the dark meat chicken, I like the chicken tenders. I come up with my own special sauces for the house. I like a lot of bread. Garlic bread, french bread. I like Shaq-aroni and cheese. A lot of delicious items to eat.

Do you have a chef nickname for yourself?

Shaq-ardee.

Gabrielle Union has said that she was surprised to learn that Charles Oakley is a “master chef,” is there any current or former NBA player that you were surprised to learn is also a good cook?

Yes, he is. I had one of his dishes once. He cooked it up really nicely. I was surprised that a guy that was so brawny in the NBA and so tough can fool around in the kitchen. I actually had one of his dishes. He’s a top chef in my opinion.

What was the dish you had?

I want to say it was like steak and pasta.

Grant Hill reveals the reason why Shaq once choked out his Suns teammate

$

It’s long been NBA legend that Shaquille O’Neal once put Phoenix Suns teammate Gordon Giricek into a sleeper hold that led to the swingman to pass out.

But why would the Hall of Fame center do that? Shaq, of all people, asked that of Grant Hill, who was a guest on CBS Sports HQ earlier this week. And Hill filled in the gaps that perhaps we’ve been wondering about for a long time:

“Giricek was a good player from Croatia, a good shooter, but he never passed the ball inside. He would always kind of look Shaq off and shoot it. And they would go back and forth and exchange words, and Giricek would kind of talk trash to Shaq. And so one day Shaq was like, ‘You know what, I’ll let this guy know who I am.’ It was right before a big game in Phoenix against Dallas. We have our team meeting. The meeting ends, I go use the restroom, I come out. Giricek’s laid out on the floor. And I’m like, ‘Come on Shaq! We’re trying to win!’ But it was typical Shaq. Thankfully, Giricek, nothing serious happened. Thankfully he’s living to be able to talk about it. But Shaq was always entertaining and always knocking people out, I suppose.”

Probably not a good idea to talk trash to a guy listed at 7-foot-1 and 325 pounds.

Shaq suggests that a Kobe comeback is possible: 'Kobe likes stuff like that'

Kobe Bryant turned 40 years old in August, and by all indications, he plans to remain retired from professional basketball.

While Kobe as actively trained with NBA and WNBA stars this offseason, Vanessa Bryant has told fans that a Kobe comeback isn’t happening. Kobe’s former teammate Shaquille O’Neal still thinks it could happen, though.

During a recent episode of The Big Podcast with Shaq, a discussion about the BIG3’s active recruitment of Bryant led to O’Neal floating the possibility of Kobe’s return to the NBA over the BIG3.

Shaq said:

“He will never go to the BIG3 before he does the NBA. I’m just saying … Listen, everybody knows who Kobe is. You mean to tell me Kobe can’t give somebody a nice 15-20 minutes a game? That’s all … If he came back at 40, the announcement would be the biggest sports announcement in history … He don’t even have to play great. Just come play 15-20 minutes a game as a Laker. And if they happen to do well, it would probably be one of the greatest stories in NBA history. Kobe likes stuff like that, that’s all I’m saying.”

For that to even work, though, Kobe would have to be willing to take on a reduced role on a team that already includes LeBron James. As competitive as Kobe is, he’s never been willing to play spot minutes off the bench.

Vince Carter, at 41, has stuck in the league by giving teams those 15-20 minutes. Could Kobe do the same? Probably. But will he? That seems unlikely at this point.

Shaq savagely rips Dwight Howard on Instagram with Charles Barkley insult

Poor Dwight Howard.

The Washington Wizards center appeared on MTV’s Wild ‘N Out and proceeded to get the roasting of a lifetime on a recent episode of Nick Cannon’s show.

Shaquille O’Neal picked up on that video that went viral over the weekend and posted it on Instagram with this comment: “Dam (sic) lol”:

Howard commented on the post, telling Shaq he’d be happy to have a “roast battle” sometime.

O’Neal’s response right back was savage:

“I only battle champions Lil man, you ain’t in my division, you in Charles Barkley division. Focus on getting that ring brother.”

So much for that roast battle. And it’s a double insult that covers both Howard and Shaq’s on-air partner Charles Barkley. Oof.

Dwight Howard on Shaq challenging him: 'I'm not gonna be quiet'

The beef between two legendary NBA big men isn’t getting squashed anytime soon.

Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal went right at Dwight Howard after posting a video of Howard getting roasted on an episode of Wild ‘N Out, responding to the Washington Wizards center by responding to a challenge with, “I only battle champions Lil man, you ain’t in my division.”

Howard came back by saying he’s got some roasts ready for O’Neal. From Yahoo Sports:

“What’s going on between me and Shaq? I don’t know. I woke up and saw that he posted something about a roast they had against me. So, I decided to clap back. Obviously, he’s got some things he wants to get off his chest about me. I don’t have any personal issues with him.

“But if you do want to get to a roast, I can roast with the best of them. I’m ready. I’ve got some in the chamber, some jokes in the chamber. Let me say that so people don’t think I’m gonna do anything crazy. It’s all love. I don’t have anything against him. He came before me as a pioneer in the game for a lot of guys that play my position. But I’m not gonna be quiet.”

Howard went on to say that his goal this season is to win a championship, regardless of whether Shaq said he should or not. And, when pressed for the jokes on O’Neal that he has “in the chamber,” Howard declined… sort of.

“No, I can’t tell you my Bigfoot jokes yet,” he said, dropping a sly hint.

Please, someone arrange this. Can Charles Barkley be there to judge, just to make it the greatest event ever?

Shaquille O’Neal, as we’ve covered on this website earlier, is going into the chicken restaurant business.

And, he’s sharing his journey on a Facebook Watch series – which will debut on October 6. The trailer shows Shaq doing everything from dressing up in the chicken costume to taste testing to promoting the chicken on a local news show.

“I’m pretty much retired now, still doing a lot, but this was something I could really, really keep an eye on,” he told FTW earlier this year. “Love chicken, grew up on chicken, raised on chicken, everybody loves chicken, so I just wanted to try my hand in this. Charles Barkley has another reason to hate Shaquille O’Neal.

While appearing on The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon asked the Hall of Famer what it was like to work with Shaquille O’Neal on Inside the NBA. Barkley went off, calling Shaq a “bully,” a “Shrek lookalike” and added, “If they didn’t pay me, I wouldn’t work with the goof.”

Then, Fallon revealed O’Neal asked him a video question: “A source close to me tells me you don’t wear underwear when you’re live on TV. How come you don’t wear drawers?”

Barkley revealed 10 years ago, he thought they were unnecessary and he burned all his underwear.

“I feel good about it, Jimmy,” he added.

Darius Miles tells wild story of the time Shaq pulled him over on the freeway

Nearly a decade after playing his final NBA game with the Memphis Grizzlies, 37-year-old ex-NBA player Darius Miles opened up on his journey to the NBA, the absurdity of life in the league, and his unfortunate off-court issues in a must-read Players’ Tribune essay titled “What the Hell Happened to Darius Miles?”

Miles touches on his experiences playing for then-Clippers owner Donald Sterling, and recounts his struggles growing up in East St. Louis. He also shared a hilarious (and slightly alarming) story about former Lakers star Shaquille O’Neal.

Miles wrote that he was pulled over for speeding on Los Angeles’ Interstate 405 one day when he was late for Clippers practice. The officer, who was driving an unmarked vehicle, turned out to be Shaq.

Via The Players’ Tribune:

“I remember one day I was running late for practice, so I was flying down the 405. All of a sudden, I look in the rearview, and I see the flashing lights. This unmarked police truck is right up on me. Tinted windows. Big heavy-duty truck. Woop-woop.

I knew I was speeding. So I pull over, and I roll the window down, and I’m reaching over into the glove compartment to get my papers ….

… Then I hear this voice. Big, booming voice.

“WHERE YOU G’WAN, BOY?”

I’m like, Damn, they got the sergeant on me or something?

I turn to look out the window, and I can’t even see this dude’s face he’s so big. All I see is his chest.

“I SAID WHERE YOU G’WAN BOY?”

Then he bends down and looks in the window.

Big, [expletive] grin on his face.

It’s Shaq.

I’m like, “Yo! I’m going to practice! You made me late!”

He don’t miss a beat. He taps side of my truck, turns around and says, “Don’t worry about it. I’ll pay your fine. Just holler at me.”

I’m looking in the rearview mirror, like, How the hell …

Shaq’s got one of those old-school police lights that you put on the hood of your car like you see on C.O.P.S.

He gets in, laughing his [expletive] off, waving at me.”

O’Neal has been sworn in as a reserve officer in several locations across the country, from Arizona to Florida. He was named a Port of Los Angeles reserve officer in 2002, but it’s unclear if O’Neal had the authority to pull over Miles at the time.

Shaquille O’Neal has long been a fan of the UFC and mixed martial arts.

And recently he showed off some of his skills as he stopped in to the UFC Performance Center in Las Vegas and mixed it up with Hall of Famer Fofrest Griffin.

Here’s an exclusive clip of Shaq getting in the Octagon against Griffin. The NBA legend looks pretty agile for his age and massive size.

That video is from Shaq’s new interactive Facebook Watch series called Big Chicken Shaq which is following the NBA Hall of Famer as he works toward opening his first restaurant in Las Vegas called Big Chicken.

Here’s more on the show, which you can watch now on Facebook Watch:

The eight-episode series will chronicle O’Neal’s journey as he angles to balance his already busy life with the restaurant – determined to maintain his singular humor in the process. Fans will be given numerous opportunities to interact with Shaq and offer opinions that will impact how the new restaurant unfolds. The series will also feature a variety of content in-between episodes, and O’Neal will leverage Facebook Live to surprise fans with cookalongs, taste tests and other activities.

“It’s going to be so much fun designing my own restaurant, and I can’t imagine a better group of people to do it with than with my incredibly loyal Facebook fans,” O’Neal said. “It’s an opportunity for us to collaborate together, and I know the Facebook community will offer terrific feedback.”

You can see this UFC-heavy bonus episode starting Saturday. Along with having some fun with Griffin, Shaq meets with Dana White and gets choked out in the episode by UFC fighter Claudia Gadelha.

Shaquille O'Neal set a surprisingly low bar for the LeBron-led Lakers to be successful

$

Former Laker great Shaquille O’Neal took some time Monday to talk exclusively with For The Win and of course the state of the current Lakers team came up.

Shaq was asked what it would take for this year to be considered a successful season for this team.

“Second round of playoffs,” he said via phone while making a surprise appearance at a Boys and Girls Club in Atlanta. “I don’t know yet if they’ll make it there. I’ll know more at the All-Star break.”

That would mean LeBron James would not be playing in either a conference final or the NBA Finals for the first time since since 2010.

Shaq does think this team can make the playoffs, even though things have been a big ugly in their 4-6 start to the season.

“Yeah, I think they can (make the playoffs),” Shaq said. “Every time LeBron starts with a new team they don’t start off as they would have hoped. But there are eight playoff spots out there and they should be able to get one.”

He does think they need to bring in some new players, though.

“They definitely need shooters,” Shaq said. “LeBron always needs shooters.”

That might make guys like Lonzo Ball and Kyle Kuzma feela little nervous as the young team tries to find its way with LeBron.

Shaq was at the Boys and Girls Club to surprise the Atlanta Club teens and have a personal meet-and-greet with the Alumni & Friends Yearbook Contest winner. Boys and Girls Clubs have always been a special place for Shaq.

“It’s a place where I can come and listen to counselors,” he said. “And it’s a safe haven for the kids.”
