The royal box at Wimbledon has hosted kings, queens, heads of state, princes, princesses, generals, dukes, duchesses, barons, baronesses, Pippas and now a Big Aristotle.
Shaquille O’Neal was a guest in the most prestigious luxury box in sports on Monday, watching the opening day of the 2014 championships on Centre Court. Along with girlfriend Nicole Alexander, Shaq took in the day’s three matches, including Andy Murray’s first rounder, which was the first title defense by a British man in 77 years.
Though it’s still the toughest invite in sports, the royal box isn’t as exclusive as you might think. There are 74 seats that are filled daily with various political figures, royals, celebrities and prominent figures.
The protocol in the royal box is for ladies not to wear hats, “as they tend to obscure the vision of those seated behind them.” It says nothing about the protocol for seven-foot-one basketball Hall of Famers, however. (You’ll notice no one is sitting behind Shaq Diesel.)
